QUESTION:

I want to buy 2 rear air shocks or air bags for my 2006, dodge ram 3500, 4 wheel drive, 4 door pick up truck. The two I have questions about are be5-c614 ho air shock and 59555 air lift. I have a goose neck connection on my truck pulling a 40' trailer hauling loads up to 20,000 lbs. Questions: How much weight each will handle, psi required, and most importanly what would be max lift and drop in height at rear of truck.

ANSWER:

Sorry, there are no airshocks for 3500 vehicles. Airlift does make an airkit, and we do list that in our online catalog The two bags working together support around 5,000 lbs. The psi needed is determined by inflating the bag to achieve the level you need. Meaning, when the vehicle is sagging, you inflate the bag until the rear of the truck is level with the front. How much psi / air is used depends on the load and how much leveling is needed. Airlift does not mention the limit as far as lowering, but once the bag is deflated, the rear leaf springs (and load) will determined the height of the vehicle. Airlift bags are not designed to really lift the rear of a vehicle higher than the front (that can cause an unsafe handling condition), only to level the rear with the front for a balanced setup. They do not say what the maximum height is. Normally there will be something on the factory suspension that will limit how high you can go. You might run the height topics past Airlifts technical people - 800-248-0892 The Bilsteins are the best choice for shocks.
