1998 Cadillac DeVille Electronic Suspension Conversion Options
A 1998 Cadillac DeVille has different conversion choices at the front and rear. Replacing electronic damping does not necessarily mean removing rear air leveling. Before choosing a kit, decide which factory functions you want to retain and which end of the car needs repair.
Front conversion: conventional damping
This front strut conversion replaces the electronic front struts with traditional, nonadjustable units. The associated product is Arnott SK-2183. This is a front suspension decision and should not be confused with a rear air-shock replacement. Check the application and kit instructions for your vehicle, including any procedures relating to the original electronic system.
Rear conversion: retain air leveling
The rear option uses traditional air shocks in place of the electronic units while keeping the rear air-leveling function. The linked rear kit is Arnott AS-2185 and is identified as a pair. This is not the same as converting the rear suspension to a completely non-air arrangement. A functioning leveling system remains relevant to the intended result.
Choose conversion or like-for-like repair
Replacement electronic shocks and struts are another path if retaining the original damping arrangement is important. Compare that goal with the simpler damping approach of the conversion products rather than deciding only by the word conversion. Have the installer assess the compressor, air lines, mounts, and related suspension components as applicable. Do not assume new rear air shocks will correct every fault in an otherwise malfunctioning leveling system.
