Safe T Plus Steering Stabilizers for Freightliner Motorhomes
Freightliner chassis are a popular foundation for diesel pushers, Super C builds, and medium-duty RV conversions. A Safe T Plus steering stabilizer adds straight-line stability, helps control wander from crosswinds and passing trucks, and gives you a safety margin if you ever lose a front tire at speed.
How to Use the Freightliner Fitment Chart
- Start with your model line: Find your chassis family in the left column (Fl 50/60/70/80, M2, XC, XCS, X-Press, etc.).
- Confirm year and front axle details: Some rows depend on axle rating, Rockwell axle type, or specific years (for example, 1997–1999 Fl 50–60 Medium Duty).
- Check tie rod and U-bolt size: Many XC, XCS, and 26000 series listings are based on tie rod diameter (1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 1 3/4"). M2 chassis also require the suspension U-bolt diameter.
- Match the stabilizer and kit: The chart lists the correct stabilizer (41-180 or 41-230) and the matching mounting hardware kit (F-143K series, JD-800K series, R-104K series, etc.). Always order both pieces together unless you already have one.
Special Notes for Freightliner M2 Chassis
- Measurements are required: For M2 chassis with 8,000 lb. or 10,000 lb. front axles, we need your exact suspension U-bolt and tie rod diameters before recommending a kit.
- Different specs from the factory: Even within the same model year, M2 builds can ship with different axle and steering setups, which is why measurements matter more than just the year or model name.
- Have this info ready: When you call, have your VIN, axle rating, and your U-bolt and tie rod measurements handy for the quickest fit confirmation.
Installation Tips on Freightliner Chassis
- Inspect steering first: Check tie rod ends, drag link ends, kingpins, and bushings. A stabilizer will not hide worn components.
- Mount on clean surfaces: Remove rust and scale where brackets clamp to the axle and tie rod, then torque all hardware to Safe T Plus specifications.
- Road test and center: After installation, test drive on a straight, level road and fine-tune the stabilizer position so the coach tracks straight with the steering wheel centered.
Freightliner Safe T Plus FAQs
How do I know if I need the 41-180 or 41-230 stabilizer?
The chart above calls out which stabilizer is used with each chassis and axle combination. Most medium-duty and heavy Freightliner applications use 41-230, while select M2 front axles use 41-180. If your coach isn’t clearly listed, call or text us for help.
What if my tie rod size doesn’t match the chart?
If your measured tie rod diameter doesn’t match any of the options shown, we likely still have a kit that fits—Freightliner has used several steering configurations over the years. Call or text 1-954-202-6229 with your measurements and chassis details.
Will this fix all steering wander and play?
Safe T Plus stabilizers do a great job of helping the coach hold a straight line and resist sudden pulls, but they can’t correct mechanical issues. Any excessive steering play, loose components, or alignment problems should be repaired first for the best possible results.
