Z55 Suspension Conversion Guide for 2007–2011 GM SUVs
This guide explains how to convert your 2007–2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, or Cadillac Escalade from Z55 electronic suspension to a standard non-electronic coil spring setup. It applies to all 2007–2011 full-size GM SUVs equipped with the Z55 Autoride suspension system.

This tutorial covers the installation of two Arnott coil spring conversion kits:
- C-3184 Conversion Kit for short wheelbase vehicles: Tahoe, Avalanche, Yukon, and Escalade
- C-3185 Conversion Kit for long wheelbase vehicles: Suburban and Yukon XL
Step-by-Step Conversion Instructions
Step 1: Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical shorts.
Step 2: Locate and remove the air compressor fuse. Use your owner’s manual to identify the correct fuse in the engine compartment.
Step 3: Safely jack up the vehicle and support it per GM’s instructions.
Step 4: Remove the wheel.
Step 5: Disconnect the shock sensor connector at the top of the shock and remove the air line by rotating the clip 90 degrees.
Step 6: Remove the shock absorber. If needed, use a floor jack to relieve pressure on the upper mounts.
Step 7: Remove the sway bar, height sensor, and rear springs. Disconnect the brake sensor and ride height sensor carefully. Unbolt the brake line from the rear differential.
Step 8: Install the new coil spring. Ensure it’s oriented correctly. Reconnect the sway bar and shock absorber.
Step 9: Tighten shock bolts and reconnect the brake line, ride height sensor, and brake sensor.
Installing the Electronic Bypass Module
For long wheelbase models (Suburban, Avalanche, Yukon XL, Escalade ESV/EXT): the suspension control module is located above the spare tire. Remove the clip holding the wire harness for easier access.
For short wheelbase models (Tahoe, Yukon, standard Escalade): the suspension control module is located in the passenger-side rear cargo area.
Full instructions for the bypass module are included in the Arnott conversion kit.
Important Safety Notice
This guide provides general instructions for installing a Z55 conversion kit and is based on materials provided by Arnott. It is not a complete installation manual. Coil spring installation can be dangerous and should only be performed by a qualified and experienced mechanic.
