Rancho Replacement Urethane Shock Bushings
A damaged shock bushing does not always mean the entire shock needs replacement. Rancho urethane bushings offer options for selected eye and stem mounts, but the replacement must match the existing shock's mounting dimensions and bushing shape.
Match eye-bushing size and profile
The listed RS978 is a 5/8-inch hourglass bushing with mounting code L1. RS980 is a 5/8-inch straight-wall bushing, also with code L1. RS984 is a 3/4-inch hourglass bushing with mounting code L3. The shared L1 code does not erase the profile difference between RS978 and RS980. Compare the original bushing and shock eye carefully rather than ordering from the nominal hole size alone.
Identify stem-mount applications separately
RS981 is listed as a stem bushing, while RS979 is identified as a Ford stem bushing. These are different choices from the eye-style hourglass and straight-wall bushings. A vehicle brand or a general description such as 'truck shock' is not enough to choose among them. Identify the shock, the mounting style and the components already fitted before selecting the replacement.
Inspect before replacing only the bushing
Look at the shock eye, stud, sleeves and mounting hardware as well as the worn urethane or rubber. A replacement bushing cannot restore a damaged mount or repair a leaking damper. Removing and installing bushings may require suitable tools and support to avoid damaging the shock. Urethane is offered here for heavy-duty use, but the right dimensions and installation matter more than simply choosing a firmer material.
