Trailer SumoSprings
Trailer SumoSprings provide supplemental cushioning between the frame and a compatible leaf-spring suspension. Their micro-cellular material compresses as the suspension engages it; this is not an owner-inflated air bag. Select a trailer-specific application rather than adapting a pickup helper by appearance.
Support alongside the leaf springs
The helper is mounted above the trailer leaf-spring assembly in the supported arrangement. Its purpose is supplemental compression support, not replacement of the main leaf spring. A broken spring or worn attachment needs repair before a helper is evaluated.
Vertical movement and sway are different problems
Repeated bumps can transmit movement to a trailer’s structure and contents. Supplemental cushioning addresses a different concern from diagnosing trailer sway, incorrect loading or a damaged tire. If sway is the complaint, assess the towing combination and load distribution rather than expecting one suspension accessory to resolve every cause.
Choose the actual trailer application
Identify axle and spring arrangement, mounting space and required clearance. The exact kit instructions determine location and engagement. A helper that fits a different leaf-spring arrangement is not automatically suitable for a travel trailer, fifth wheel or cargo trailer carrying similar weight.
Keep capacity and expectations realistic
Additional support does not change trailer GVWR, axle or tire ratings, or the tow vehicle’s allowable load. Inspect springs, bushings, attachments and tires and keep the combination within ratings. Check applicable warranty and maintenance requirements for the selected kit. Reduced harshness is a useful goal, but no accessory can promise a fixed saving in tire, brake or interior-component wear.
