Bilstein Shocks: Choose by Vehicle and Suspension Goal

Bilstein offers replacement dampers, truck leveling options, reservoir shocks, and performance suspension packages. Start with the vehicle’s configuration and ride height, then compare product families by their intended role rather than treating every Bilstein shock as the same upgrade.

Truck replacement, leveling, and reservoir options

B6 4600 is a stock-height replacement family. B8 5100 includes application-specific truck products, while ride-height-adjustable versions reposition the front spring seat using compatible original springs and hardware. Adjustment ranges vary. B8 5160 adds reservoir capacity for heat management and includes swivel reservoir fittings. Zinc finishes and digressive valving are features of relevant truck applications, not universal fitment assurances.

Lifted and universal applications need measurements

RCD 5100 products address specified lifted applications; their lift coverage is not universal. Universal 5125, 5165, and 7100 selections require mounting, travel, clearance, and valving checks. Some use reservoirs. Universal motorsports struts offer stroke and calibration choices, including listed six-, seven-, eight-, and nine-inch stroke options. These are specification-driven components, not ordinary vehicle-lookup substitutes.

Car replacements and performance packages

B4 covers OE-style replacement applications, including selected air-suspension units that combine damping and support functions. B6 offers application-specific performance replacement damping, while B8 addresses suitable performance or lowered setups. B12 packages combine dampers with Eibach springs. B16 PSS-family coilovers offer differing height, damping, or electronic adjustment features depending on the exact kit.

Motorhomes and steering damping

Motorhome 4600 selection depends on the underlying chassis rather than the coach badge alone. B8 5100 dual steering-damper kits serve a separate steering-isolation role and require their own application check. Across all families, inspect surrounding components and follow installation requirements; a shock cannot repair worn steering parts or increase vehicle load ratings.

Frequently asked questions

Does every 5100 lift the vehicle?

No. Only applicable ride-height-adjustable designs change spring-seat position; ordinary replacement shocks do not create lift.

Can universal shocks be selected by vehicle name alone?

No. They require dimensional, mounting, travel, clearance, and calibration checks.
