Why Strut Mounts and Protective Boots Matter
A new strut does not renew the mount, bearing, protective boot, or travel bumper around it. Those parts perform different jobs and can affect the finished repair. Inspecting them during strut replacement helps avoid leaving an old noise or damaged protective component beside a new damper.
Mounts Connect and Isolate
The strut mount connects the assembly to the vehicle body and helps isolate vibration. Deteriorated mounting components can contribute to clunking and harshness even after the strut itself is replaced. Check the mount as part of the repair rather than assuming a new hydraulic damper will eliminate every noise at that corner.
Bearings Have a Separate Function
Where the application uses a steering pivot bearing, that bearing allows the assembly to turn appropriately with steering movement. Boots Protect the Moving Rod Area
A torn or displaced boot allows dirt and road debris to reach an area it is intended to shield. The boot is protective equipment, not the strut’s hydraulic seal. Replacing a damaged boot helps preserve the protection around the new component instead of reinstalling an already compromised cover.
Travel Bumpers Manage Compression
