Know What to Expect Before You Reach Checkout
Buying shocks, struts, or other suspension parts can represent a significant purchase. A set of Bilstein shocks, KYB complete strut assemblies, or FOX shocks can quickly raise your cart total. It’s reasonable to ask how to pay for shocks online and whether the displayed price is your final cost.
ShockWarehouse offers several ways to pay, including major credit cards, digital wallets, financing options, and gift certificates. However, taxes, shipping charges, product availability, and payment timing can affect what happens after you submit the order.
This guide explains the checkout process in plain English. You’ll learn which payment methods may appear, how sales tax is calculated, and when your card is charged. We’ll also cover backorders, gift certificates, international orders, and the details you should verify before paying.
The Short Version
- ShockWarehouse accepts major credit cards and several digital payment options.
- Pay-over-time financing may appear for eligible customers and purchases.
- Sales tax is calculated at checkout based on the order’s shipping destination.
- You can complete your purchase without creating a customer account.
- Your card may first show an authorization or pending transaction.
- ShockWarehouse doesn’t complete the card charge until the products ship.
- Orders of at least $115 may qualify for free ground shipping within the 48 continental states.
- International orders may require additional duties, taxes, or brokerage fees at delivery.
What Payment Methods Does ShockWarehouse Accept?
The payment methods displayed during checkout can depend on your device, location, order total, and billing information. The checkout page displays the final list of available methods for your specific purchase.
Credit and Debit Cards
Major credit and debit cards are available for most orders. ShockWarehouse currently accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.
Always enter your billing address exactly as it appears on your card account. A mismatch involving the street address, ZIP code, or cardholder name can cause the authorization to fail.
Digital Wallets and Accelerated Checkout
ShockWarehouse also displays digital payment choices such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Shop Pay. These services can speed up checkout when your billing, shipping, and card information is already saved.
Before submitting a wallet payment, review the selected shipping address carefully. Digital wallets sometimes automatically choose an older saved address. Correcting that address later could affect taxes, delivery timing, or order processing.
Pay-Over-Time Financing
A pay-over-time option may be available during checkout. Eligibility, payment schedules, interest rates, and approval requirements are determined by the financing provider. ShockWarehouse doesn’t control the provider’s approval decision or available plan terms.
If financing is offered, read the complete terms before agreeing. Confirm the payment amount, due dates, total repayment cost, and any late-payment rules.
💡 Tip: The checkout page is the best source for your currently available payment options. Contact ShockWarehouse before ordering if the method you want doesn’t appear.
Why Does the Order Total Change During Checkout?
Product pages display the price of the parts. Your final total may also include sales tax and shipping when applicable. These amounts can’t be finalized until the website knows where the order is going.
Sales Tax Uses the Shipping Destination
Online sales tax generally depends on the order’s shipping destination. Therefore, shipping parts to your home could produce a different tax amount than shipping them to a repair shop in another location.
If you request a shipping address change after ordering, the sales tax may also need to be recalculated. Any remaining balance may need to be paid before the order can proceed to fulfillment.
Shipping Charges Depend on the Order
Orders of at least $115 may qualify for free ground shipping within the 48 continental states. However, some heavy or oversized items don’t qualify. Certain struts, lift kits, and air suspension products may have additional shipping requirements.
Expedited and international services can also add shipping costs. Review the delivery method and complete the total before paying. For more information, check the ShockWarehouse shipping policy.
International Duties Aren’t Part of the Checkout Total
International customers may owe customs duties, import taxes, or brokerage fees when the order reaches their country. Government agencies, customs authorities, and carriers determine these charges.
These additional fees aren’t included in the product price or ShockWarehouse shipping charge. Contact your local customs office before purchasing if the possible cost will affect your decision.
⚠️ Important: International orders are final and can’t be returned. Confirm every part number and fitment detail before submitting the order.
Can You Buy Shocks Without Creating an Account?
Yes. You can use guest checkout instead of creating a ShockWarehouse account. However, you still need to provide accurate contact information.
Your email address and phone number may be used for:
- Your order confirmation
- Availability or backorder updates
- Secure payment or reauthorization requests
- Questions about your shipping address
- Tracking information
- Updates for orders shipping in multiple packages
A mistyped email address can prevent important order messages from reaching you. Review your email, phone number, and shipping address before submitting payment.
When Is Your Card Charged for Auto Parts?
A card authorization and a completed charge aren’t the same thing. Understanding the difference can prevent confusion, especially when a shock or strut is backordered.
What Is a Card Authorization?
When you submit an order, the payment system asks your bank to approve the transaction. Your bank may place a temporary hold on the purchase amount. That hold can appear as a pending transaction.
The authorization confirms that the card is valid and that funds or credit are available. However, a pending authorization isn’t necessarily a completed charge.
When Does the Charge Become Final?
ShockWarehouse doesn’t complete the credit card charge until the ordered products ship. When parts are available quickly, you may barely notice the difference between authorization and capture.
The difference becomes more noticeable when products remain on backorder. Card issuers don’t keep temporary authorizations open forever. The exact authorization period depends on the bank, payment method, card network, and transaction.
What Happens When an Authorization Expires?
If the parts don’t become available before the authorization expires, the pending transaction may disappear. The money or available credit is generally released by the bank.
An expired authorization doesn’t automatically cancel the underlying order. When the products become available, ShockWarehouse may send a secure invoice so you can authorize payment again.
- Your order remains open while the product is unavailable.
- The original card authorization expires or is released.
- The product becomes available for fulfillment.
- ShockWarehouse sends a secure payment request.
- You complete the invoice so the existing order can continue.
🔧 Tip: Pay the invoice connected to your existing order instead of placing another order. A second purchase could create duplicate orders or authorizations.
If you see a posted charge and receive another invoice, don’t pay again immediately. Contact the team with your order number, transaction date, and payment amount. You can also read the complete guide explaining why your card wasn’t charged for backordered shocks.
How ShockWarehouse Gift Certificates Work
A ShockWarehouse gift certificate provides another way to pay for shocks online. Certificates are currently available in $100 increments, with options ranging from $100 to $1,000.
Gift certificates are especially helpful when you want to buy suspension parts for someone else. Correct fitment can depend on the vehicle’s drivetrain, trim level, suspension type, ride height, and modifications. Giving the recipient a certificate allows them to choose the correct products.
The recipient could apply the certificate toward replacement shocks, complete strut assemblies, performance dampers, or compatible suspension upgrades. They should still verify fitment before completing the purchase.
Enter the gift certificate code during checkout. If the code doesn’t apply correctly, contact ShockWarehouse before submitting another form of payment.
What Should You Check Before Paying?
1. Confirm Vehicle Fitment
Verify the vehicle’s year, make, model, submodel, drivetrain, and suspension type. Electronic dampers, air suspension, and self-leveling systems require specific components.
A lift or leveling kit can also change the shock length your vehicle needs. Don’t choose a product using its brand, appearance, or general vehicle category alone.
2. Check the Part Quantity
Many shocks and struts are sold individually rather than as pairs. Review each product page and make sure the cart contains the quantity you need.
Struts and complete assemblies can also be position-specific. Confirm whether each part fits the front-left, front-right, rear-left, or rear-right position.
3. Verify the Shipping Address
Check the complete address, including apartment, suite, or shop information. UPS and FedEx can’t deliver these orders to a P.O. box. An incorrect address could delay delivery and create additional charges.
4. Review Product Availability
If you need parts for an urgent repair, contact ShockWarehouse before ordering. Inventory changes quickly, and some products must come from a manufacturer or affiliated warehouse.
Some special-order suspension parts also have different payment, delivery, cancellation, or return requirements. Review those terms before purchasing.
5. Check the Return Rules
Don’t install a part until you’ve confirmed its part number and condition. Installed parts generally can’t be returned. Special-order products and international orders may also be ineligible for return.
Review the complete ShockWarehouse return policy before buying if there’s any uncertainty.
6. Request a Price Match Before Shipment
If an accredited competitor advertises the same in-stock part number at a lower price, you may be able to request a ShockWarehouse price match. Shipping and handling charges must be included when comparing the final totals.
Submit the request before the order ships. Price-match requests made after shipment aren’t honored.
Paying for Shop, Fleet, or Tax-Exempt Orders
Repair shops, fleets, RV service centers, and resale businesses may need more assistance than a standard online checkout provides. The same applies when you need a formal quote or want to submit tax-exemption documentation.
Contact ShockWarehouse before ordering and provide the following information:
- Manufacturer part numbers
- Required quantities
- Complete shipping destination
- Vehicle or fleet information
- Applicable tax-exemption documentation
- Your preferred delivery timeframe
The team can review the request and explain the appropriate ordering process. Don’t assume that entering tax-exempt information after checkout will automatically remove an existing tax charge.
