Lifted and leveled truck shocks
Bilstein B8 5100 shocks are direct-fit monotube upgrades for supported lifted and leveled trucks, SUVs and Jeeps. The correct part depends on the exact vehicle, suspension design, position and actual lift height.

Use the Year, Make, Model selector at the top of this page. Compare only the 5100s returned for your vehicle, then verify 2WD or 4WD, front or rear position and the listed lift-height range before ordering.
Quick answer
The 5100 is not simply the silver version of every other Bilstein truck shock. It is designed around lifted, leveled and off-road truck applications.
Start with B8 5100. Choose the exact part whose application and lift range match your suspension.
Compare B6 4600. The Bilstein B6 4600 is the usual truck and SUV performance upgrade when the vehicle remains at stock height.
Compare B8 5125. The Bilstein B8 5125 is selected by length, mount style and valving for custom applications.
Two different configurations
Both use Bilstein monotube technology, but they do different jobs. Check which design your exact vehicle uses before buying.
A direct-fit shock built for a specific vehicle and lift-height range.
The lift comes from the springs, torsion-bar adjustment, spacer or lift system. The 5100 supplies the correct damping and travel range for the application.
A front shock with adjustable spring-seat positions for supported OE coilover-style suspensions.
Read the full Bilstein 5100 Ride Height Adjustable guide. Installation requires proper spring-compression equipment. If the ride height is changed, the alignment should be checked and corrected as needed.
How it works
The 46mm monotube body uses one working cylinder with a floating piston separating the oil from the pressurized gas. This helps prevent aeration and keeps damping more consistent as the shock works.
Bilstein's digressive valving builds damping force quickly to control steering, braking and body motion, then changes more gradually as shaft speed increases over rough surfaces.
A direct-fit 5100 is not chosen only by its length. Bilstein tunes applications around the supported vehicle and considers how it behaves loaded, unloaded, on the road and off-road.
Fitment first
Enter the year, make and model in the selector at the top of the page.
Check drivetrain, suspension package, front or rear position and whether the part is standard or Ride Height Adjustable.
Verify the front and rear lift separately instead of relying only on the lift kit's advertised size.
Confirm quantity, included hardware, spring-seat setting and all fitment restrictions before ordering.

Other Bilstein options
Choose the 4600 when the supported truck or SUV remains at factory ride height and does not need a front leveling adjustment.
Choose the 5125 by compressed length, extended length, mount style and valving when a direct-fit vehicle application is not appropriate. Use the Bilstein B8 measurement tables as a reference.
The 5160 adds a remote reservoir for increased oil capacity and heat dissipation in supported lifted-truck applications used more aggressively off-road.
Bilstein 5100 questions
Standard B8 5100 applications are primarily designed for supported lifted and leveled trucks, SUVs and Jeeps. Ride Height Adjustable 5100 front shocks may include a stock-height setting on certain vehicles. For a stock-height vehicle that is not being leveled, compare the Bilstein B6 4600.
No. A standard 5100 shock controls suspension movement but does not support the vehicle's weight or create lift. Lift comes from the spring, torsion-bar setting, spacer or lift system. The Ride Height Adjustable 5100 is different because its spring-seat position can raise the front of supported vehicles.
The available settings depend on the exact vehicle and part number. Some applications provide up to approximately 2.8 inches of front lift, while others provide less. Use only the spring-seat positions approved for the application.
The B6 4600 is generally the direct-fit performance choice for stock-height trucks and SUVs. The B8 5100 is built around lifted or leveled applications and is offered in lift-specific and Ride Height Adjustable configurations.
Vehicle-specific 5100 valving can improve damping and control when the truck is loaded or towing, but shocks do not increase payload, axle or towing ratings. The correct choice still depends on the vehicle, lift height and use.
They commonly feel more controlled and may feel firmer than soft factory or worn shocks, especially during steering and braking. The actual ride depends on the vehicle, springs, tire pressure, tire construction, lift components and load.
It depends on the product listing. Many shock absorbers are sold individually, while some Ride Height Adjustable fronts or complete kits may be sold as pairs or packages. Check the quantity and package contents before ordering.
A direct-fit 5100 should be selected by vehicle and lift application. For a custom suspension requiring selection by compressed length, extended length and mount style, compare the Bilstein B8 5125 and use the Bilstein B8 measurement tables.
Use the Year, Make, Model selector at the top of this page. If the truck has a lift kit, mixed front and rear heights or other suspension changes, call before ordering.
