Act Quickly If You Need to Change a Shipping Address After an Order

It happens more often than you might think. You order new shocks or struts, complete checkout, and then notice the wrong address in your confirmation email. Your browser may have used an old address, or you might’ve forgotten an apartment number.

The good news is that ShockWarehouse may be able to correct the address if the order hasn’t shipped. However, you’ll need to contact our customer service team as quickly as possible.

Once an order enters fulfillment or leaves the shipping facility, changing its destination becomes much harder. ShockWarehouse can’t directly change the delivery address after the carrier takes possession of the package.

💡 Quick Tip: Check your order confirmation as soon as it arrives. Catching an incorrect address early gives our team the best chance of correcting it.

How to Request an Address Change

If you need to change the shipping address after an order, don’t place another order. Instead, contact ShockWarehouse with the information our team needs to locate and review the original purchase.

  1. Call ShockWarehouse as soon as possible. For time-sensitive order changes, call 1-800-245-7469 or 1-954-202-6229.
  2. Provide your order number. You can find it in your order confirmation email.
  3. Give us the complete corrected address. Include the street address, city, state, ZIP code, and apartment or unit number.
  4. Mention any delivery restrictions. Tell us if the address is a business, gated property, repair shop, or location with limited receiving hours.

You can review current phone hours and other contact options on the ShockWarehouse contact page. Calling is usually the best option when the order may be close to shipping.

An address change isn’t guaranteed. The team must first determine where the order is in the fulfillment process. Some orders begin processing quickly, especially when the parts are available and ready to ship.

Don’t Place a Duplicate Order

Placing a second order might seem like the fastest solution, but it can create a bigger problem. Both orders may remain active and move through fulfillment.

A duplicate order can lead to:

  • Two active card authorizations
  • Two shipments of the same suspension parts
  • Additional return shipping costs
  • A restocking fee when applicable
  • Delays while the duplicate order is reviewed

Contact our team before submitting another purchase. If the original order can’t be corrected, customer service can explain the available options.

🔧 ShockWarehouse Tip: If you receive an invoice or payment request connected to your existing order, don’t create a new order. Contact us if you’re unsure what the invoice covers.

Why an Address Change Can Affect Sales Tax

Sales tax is generally based on the order’s delivery destination. State and local tax rates can differ between cities, counties, and states.

When the shipping address changes, the tax calculation may also need to change. The updated destination could have a higher or lower combined tax rate than the original address.

If the corrected address increases the order total, ShockWarehouse may send an updated invoice or payment request. This doesn’t necessarily mean that a second order was created. It may only cover the difference associated with the updated order.

Review the order number, address, and total before completing any additional payment. If something doesn’t look right, contact ShockWarehouse directly through the information on our website.

An Invoice Doesn’t Automatically Mean You Were Charged Twice

ShockWarehouse typically authorizes a card when an order is processed. The card isn’t charged until the ordered items ship.

An authorization can appear as a pending transaction in your bank account. It isn’t always a completed charge. If an order remains open long enough, the original authorization may expire.

An address correction, tax adjustment, or expired authorization could result in a new payment request. Our guide explaining why your card wasn’t charged for backordered shocks covers the difference between an authorization and a completed charge.

Shipping Addresses That May Require Extra Attention

Suspension parts can be large, heavy, and difficult to redirect. A complete strut assembly, coilover, or heavy-duty shock may require more handling than a small automotive accessory.

Review these address details carefully before placing your order.

PO Boxes

UPS and FedEx generally require a physical delivery address. Some Post Office locations offer street-addressing services, but availability and package restrictions vary.

Use a complete physical address whenever possible. If you’re unsure whether your address can accept the shipment, contact ShockWarehouse before ordering.

Apartments and Unit Numbers

A missing apartment or unit number can prevent a successful delivery. Include the building number, apartment number, and any required access details during checkout.

Don’t rely on the carrier to recognize your name or contact the property manager. The package label needs enough information to identify the correct destination.

Repair Shops and Commercial Addresses

You can ship parts to a repair shop when the shop agrees to receive them. Before using the shop’s address, confirm:

  • The shop will accept packages for you
  • The business name is entered correctly
  • The receiving department knows your name
  • The shop will be open during normal delivery hours
  • Your phone number appears on the order

ShockWarehouse sells and ships suspension parts, but we don’t install them. If you’re having a shop complete the work, arrange the appointment and receiving details directly with that business.

Freight Forwarders

Customers sometimes use freight forwarders or package-forwarding services. These services add another step between the original carrier and the final destination.

Inspect the package as soon as the forwarder receives it. Take pictures of the box, shipping label, and contents. Additional transportation can make damage or loss claims harder to document.

International Address Changes

Changing a domestic shipping address to an international destination usually involves more than editing a street address. Shipping costs, carrier services, customs requirements, duties, and taxes may all change.

International recipients are responsible for applicable customs charges, taxes, duties, and other destination fees. Review the ShockWarehouse international shipping information before requesting a cross-border change.

What If the Order Has Already Shipped?

Once the carrier has the package, ShockWarehouse can’t directly change the delivery address, place the package on hold, or reroute it.

Your shipping confirmation email should include the carrier, tracking number, and estimated delivery date. Depending on the shipment, the carrier may provide delivery-management options.

  • UPS My Choice: Eligible shipments may offer a delivery hold, Access Point pickup, or address-related options.
  • FedEx Delivery Manager: Eligible shipments may allow delivery instructions, vacation holds, or pickup at a participating location.
  • USPS Informed Delivery: This service can provide tracking and delivery-management options for qualifying USPS packages.

Not every shipment qualifies for a redirect or hold. Available services may depend on the shipper’s restrictions, package type, destination, and delivery status. The carrier may also charge a fee.

For more guidance, read our article on tracking and managing a package after it ships from ShockWarehouse.

⚠️ Important: Don’t wait for a delivery attempt before checking your options. Carrier restrictions usually increase as the package gets closer to its destination.

What If the Package Goes to the Old Address?

Start by checking the tracking information. If the package hasn’t been delivered, review the carrier’s available hold or pickup options.

If it reaches the old address, don’t ask the current resident to open or repackage the parts. If possible, arrange to retrieve the unopened shipment. You may also be able to refuse delivery when someone is present.

If the parts must be returned, use the official ShockWarehouse return request process. Don’t send the package back without obtaining the required return information.

An address error is generally considered a customer order error. Return shipping charges and other applicable costs may therefore be the customer’s responsibility.

How to Avoid Shipping Address Problems at Checkout

Most address mistakes come from browser autofill, digital wallets, or saved information from an earlier purchase. A quick review can prevent shipping delays and additional costs.

  • Read the complete shipping address. Check every line instead of reviewing only the city and state.
  • Confirm the ZIP code. One incorrect number can change the destination or tax calculation.
  • Include the apartment or unit. Don’t assume saved information contains it.
  • Check your email address. Your confirmation, invoice, and tracking details depend on it.
  • Provide a current phone number. The carrier or customer service team may need to reach you.
  • Review digital-wallet information. Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Shop Pay may use their own saved addresses.
  • Ask before shipping to a repair shop. Make sure someone there can receive and identify the package.

The Short Version

  • Contact ShockWarehouse immediately when you notice an incorrect address.
  • Call instead of relying only on email for urgent changes.
  • Have your order number and complete corrected address ready.
  • Don’t submit a duplicate order unless our team tells you to do so.
  • Expect the sales tax calculation to change when the destination changes.
  • Use carrier delivery tools if the order has already shipped.
  • Start an official return request if the unopened parts must come back.
